KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer Review

Review of KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer

Note:Reviewed by Sheila Watson Kraklow
My foods industry as well as culinary career began in a small farm community hospital; it was there that I had my first experience with a professional grade KitchenAid mixer.  This first mixer was not the one I am reviewing today, but it was the first KitchenAid mixer in which I fell in love!

In my foods industry career I have had a chance to use many different, all-be-it similar, professional styled stand mixers and my favorite is Kitchen-Aid. My how they have changed in the 30 some years since I first met the brand.

KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer My latest experience with KitchenAid Professional mixers was in the kitchen of a caterer.  I had made arrangements to use this kitchen when they were closed so I could run this mixer through its paces and see what I thought; being friends with someone in the catering world never hurts; in this case it came in mighty handy since she had indeed just purchased this marvelous mixer.

I was there in her kitchen when she unpacked her KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer, and I was very impressed upon sight.

She ordered it online from Amazon.com paying a bargain price of $399.00 and free sipping to boot! And it arrived within the allotted time of between 5-8 days after processing.

She was able to pay for this using PayPal; the KitchenAid website listed this mixer at $449.99. Shipping weight listed is 30 lbs.

My Trial Run of the KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer:

I decided to use this KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer to make a double batch of pizza dough.  The recipe called for 5 cups so doubled I used 10 cups.

The mixer handled the amount of flour with ease, mixing gently as the process began, with a not too loud running motor noise level.  As I added more flour and the dough became more stiff, the noise level rose somewhat but it was working hard, and the noise was very tolerable.

I did like how the “Soft Start” feature allows for a slower starting speed that gradually increases so as not to spew flour and other dry ingredients all over the baker and floor, upon starting the mixing process.

In my experience in making pizza dough (I did it professionally for a few years) after the dough is kneaded it is then well oiled on top, and cling wrap is applied to the top of the dough in the bowl; which is still attached to the mixer.  Thus adorned, my dough in the bowl was set to start its rising process.  This rising process usually takes 30 minutes.

So I followed my regular routine to allow for the rising of the massive pizza dough in the mixer bowl. After the process I started the mixer on a lower speed, effectively “punching down” the risen dough.  The mixer had no problem starting and/or moving this mass of risen dough.

I then removed the dough from the mixing bowl and processed it for later use.  Experiment concluded. The smooth construction of the mixer made clean-up a breeze.

The KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer did rise to the occasion for me and did perform as I expected a product from KitchenAid would.  I have no complaints as to its viability and manufacturing – actually I can’t wait to get one for my own kitchen.

I cannot see that it is better than the other KitchenAid Stand Mixers I have used, owned, or operated in the past, but it is an a quality mixer and a noticeable upgrade from the smaller mixers; it is perfect for a professional setting where large amounts of stiff batters, dense bread and pastry dough, and frostings are made.

Reviews from others who bought the KitchenAid KP26M1PSL Professional 600 Series 6-Quart Stand Mixer:

“The pro 600 really has the power to get through the big batches of cookies my wife makes. I was worried, from some other reviews, that it was going to be a noisy mixer, but it really hasn’t bothered us. We got a great deal by selecting one of the less popular colors, pearl metallic I believe. I ended paying only $20 dollars more than the cheapest artisan, well worth it and the color is great.”

“I received my mixer before the estimated deliver date and I just love using it. I have had no problems. It is very friendly user. I have been wanting a stand mixer for some time. I researched other mixers but got the most positive reviews for the KitchenAid KP26MICPM Professional 600 Series 6 quart Stand Mixer…”

I bought this mixer to replace a Sunbeam that I had used for years that finally quit. I decided a long time ago that when I replaced my old mixer it would be with a KitchenAid. After reading the reviews of different models, I decided on the Pro 600 with 6 qt. bowl. I do a lot of baking & it has handled anything that I have used it for with ease. It is truly a powerhouse. I can mix 2 pound cakes in it at once with no problem & the 6 qt. bowl is large enough to hold them.

Exactly what I expected. This is a KitchenAid, a large heavy, heavy-duty mixer. Too heavy for my wife to maneuver, but then I didn’t buy it for her (hah!)I bought it mainly to make bread and so far I’ve done multiple white bread loafs and French baguettes with the dough hook. Works great. Also did a scratch cheesecake with the paddle. That turned out fine although I should have scraped the sides of the bowl more carefully throughout. (I expected the paddle to clean the sides of the bowl better than it did.) Anyway, I’m very happy with this purchase.
