Review of Cuisinart MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware

Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel Cookware Set
Let me tell you how I came to decide upon the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set.

Cookware in your kitchen can often be like old comfortable slippers. You know it and know how it will perform and you are quite happy to ignore any of its shortcomings. This was certainly the case with me until my daughter and daughter-in-law brought to my attention that my old familiar pots and pans were long past their useful state. Fancy that!

This revelation caused me to start to research the available cookware. In my search I visited some specialty kitchen stores and talked to the knowledgeable staff in these stores. At all the stores that I visited I was told that regardless of what set of cookware that I decided upon that I should make sure of a few things:

Non-stick cookware – although the surfaces are improving all the time, a few health concerns have been raised. Although I have a few pieces on non-stick I am not so wedded to them that I need to have a whole set of non-stick pots and pans. Stainless steel is more lasting than non-stick cookware.

Stainless steel cookware – needs to have a core between the alloy of metals of the outer and inner layers. The core should be aluminum or copper or maybe even both. This should be not only on the bottom but also up the sides. This allows for even cooking by distributing even heat throughout the pan. I think the stainless steel pots that I currently own only have this core in the bottom.

In my old age I have become a very devoted fan of online shopping. I like the idea that I can explore things at my leisure and that I don’t have an aggressive salesperson breathing down my neck. So I took this information that I had gathered and started to research the online merchants.

Price Verses Quality

I quickly became torn between buying All Clad and Multi Clad cookware. After all this was probably the last set I would ever buy. I come from a mindset that if it costs more money it must be better quality. However this is not always true and in this case I came to the conclusion that it was not necessarily the case with this cookware.

In looking through all the reviews over and over again owners of the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set were stating how pleased they were with the quality. This is typical to what other reviewers had to say:

In my opinion, the All-Clad Stainless Steel line is much overated. Its great cookware, but has no rolled edges for easy pouring without making a mess, and I prefer the handles on just about any other brand. All-Clad’s materials and construction are the same as the other premium lines, with the exception of the rolled edges. Incidentally, staunch supporters of All-Clad make inferences of inferiority when speaking of other brands such as Cuisinart, stating “its made in China”. I have two All-Clad pans hanging on the pot rack right now, one made in China, and the other made in Indonesia. Most of their line is made in the USA, but premium cookware made overseas (including some of their own lines) is not inferior!

What Did I Need?

Since I was being encouraged to throw out all my old pots and pans and to start completely anew, I made a list of things that I felt I really wanted in a new set.

As well as needing certain sizes and configurations I wanted the new set to be able to go in the oven and even under the broiler sometimes. I wanted the handles to be comfortable and not hot when touched. I wanted lids that fit properly and could possibly be used from pot to skillet. I also wanted but maybe not so important that they be dishwasher safe. I mostly hand wash my pots so they don’t take up a lot of room in the dishwasher but from time to time I do throw them in the dishwasher.

What Does the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set Provide?

  • Although many companies are moving away from branding their cookware as 18/10 stainless steel due to different mixes of alloys now being used; Cusinart states this is Tri-ply 18/10 stainless steel construction with aluminum core. This means the stainless steel is very good quality.
  • The exterior is brushed steel with a mirror interior.
  • The handles are solid 18/10 stainless steel and riveted for strength. They are ergonomically comfortable and angled for great shaking.
  • The lids are of the same high quality steel and are tight fitting while allowing for the steam to escape.
  • They are oven proof up to 500 degrees that means you can pop something from the top of the stove into the oven without changing pans.
  • With their heavier bottoms you are able and encouraged to use a lower heat. This helps with energy savings and produces les burned food.
  • The tapered rims allow for drip free pouring.
  • The covered sauté pan has a helper handle on the opposite side to the regular handle and this makes it easy to shake.
  • Easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
  • Compatible with induction ranges.

What is Included?

  • 11/2 quart saucepan plus lid
  • 3 quart saucepan plus lid
  • 8 inch skillet
  • 10 inch skillet
  • 31/2 quart sauté pan plus lid
  • 8 quart stockpot plus lid
  • Steamer insert plus lid
  • *Lids fit skillets

Other Important Considerations

For me I did not want the pots to be too heavy. I think as we age we lose some strength in our hands and wrists and when you add food to the pot it can be heavy to maneuver. I was glad to see that the pots were approximately 2 to 3 pounds and only the stockpot was 6.8 pounds. This means this Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set is sturdy but not too heavy for seniors.

Cleaning is always a consideration. I am long past wanting to spend my life in the kitchen scouring pots. I was happy to know that these pans clean easily and can be kept looking new by using Bar Keepers Friend.

What Others Think About the Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set

This Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set and checking other online sites the ratings all run from 4.5 to 5 stars. Amazon has by far the best price.

Personally, I have owned the high quality non-stick stuff as well as stainless steel cookware. The non-stick stuff is quite over-rated, it does not clean up any more easily than the stainless pans. None of my non-stick Analon and Caliphon stuff has lasted more than six or eight years. The only stainless steel pot I ever had I got from my mother back in 1979. It is in great condition and looks like I bought it last month

I’ve owned this 12 piece set for over a year, and can’t offer enough praise. It still looks brand new (use Barkeepers Friend to clean it). It heats evenly and quickly, retains heat for a long time, sears and browns well without burning, handles comfortably, cleans up easily and looks great! I’m fortunate enough to have several different types of cookware to compare. My cookware includes: All-Clad, JC Penny Elite (5 ply Copper Core), Chefmate tri-ply, Hard Anodized non-stick and Cuisinart Tri-Ply Copper.

Cuisinart Multi Clad isn’t as good as All Clad; IT’S BETTER! I have both All Clad and Cuisinart as well as other brands of high-end cookware including Tri Ply, Five Ply Copper Core, Copper etc.

I absolutely love them. I’ve went thru many expensive sets and they just don’t last. I was worried about them being stainless w/o the non-stick but they cook great and clean up easily. I did a lot of research and found this set to get the highest reviews. I’m so glad I decided on this set. I’ve been using them for over 6 months now and I use them everyday, usually more than once, and they are holding up great. I would buy again and would highly recommend them.
