Caramel Morsel Bars

Caramel Morsel Bars

When my children were young this recipe was published in an advertisement for Nestle Kraft. We made this often and took it when we were requested to bring squares or cookies. It is quite sweet and as a result I have set it aside for a long time. Now that my Grandchildren are of an age that they are allowed the odd cookie it has been resurrected. It is a fun recipe to make together and of course the children love the sweet taste.

  • 49 (14 ounce bag) Caramels
  • 3 Tbsp Water
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal or toasted oat cereal
  • 1 cup Peanuts
  • 1 cup (6 ounce package) Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 cup (6 ounce package) Butterscotch Chips

Melt the caramels with water in saucepan over low heat. Stir frequently until the sauce is smooth. Pour over cereal and nuts; toss until well coated. With greased fingers, press mixture into greased 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Sprinkle chips on top; place in 200 degree oven for 5 minutes or until chips soften. Spread softened morsels until blended to form frosting. Cool. Cut into bars.
