Recipe for Asian Barbeque Pork Loin

Because we like pork loin so much and I have not grown up with a number of ways to cook it, I am always seeking new recipes. As we enter into barbeque season this is a great recipe. It appeared in a Canadian Living where they referenced Alfred Hynes of Aqua Restaurant, St. John’s, Nfld.

Ingredients for Asian Barbeque Pork Loin

  • 2lb Boneless Pork Loin centre-cut roast 1kg

Ingredients for Barbecue Sauce

  • 2Tsp Sesame oil 10ml
    1 Small Onion 1
    1Tbsp Minced Gingerroot 15ml
    1/4Cup Raisins 50ml
    1/4Cup Orange juice 50ml
    1/4Cup Tomato juice 50ml
    1/4Cup Hoisin sauce 50ml
    1/4Cup Soya sauce 50ml
    3Tbsp Brown sugar, packed 50ml
    2Tbsp Balsamic vinegar 25ml
    11/2Tsp Dijon Mustard 7ml
    1/4Tsp Pepper 1ml

Method for Barbecue Sauce

In a small saucepan heat the oil over medium heat. Cook onion and ginger until softened about 4 minutes. Add raisins, orange, and tomato juices, hoisin and soya sauce, sugar, vinegar, mustard, and pepper. Bring to simmer and cook 15 minutes. Let cool slightly.
Pour into a blender or food processor and purée until smooth.
Can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container for a week.
Remove and set aside half to be served as sauce.

Method for Cooking Pork Loin

Place pork on greased grill over medium heat; close lid and grilled for 20 minutes. Turn and brush with remaining sauce; grill until meat thermometer registers 160° (70°C) and just a hint of pink remains inside, about 20 minutes. Transfer to cutting board; tent with foil and let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Reheat serving sauce. Serve with pork.

Makes 6 to 8 Servings
