Recipe for Ham in Rum Sauce

We love ham and this recipe for ham in rum sauce adds another way to enjoy it. We often have a roast of ham for special occasions like Christmas Eve and Easter but having ham steaks allows us to have it between times.
By adding rum to the recipe it gives the ham a whole new flavor and also allows us to cook the ham indoors rather than on the barbeque.

Ingredients for Ham in Rum Sauce

2 Ham steaks cooked – 1 inch thick
24 Whole cloves
2 cups Apples sliced
½ cup Dark rum
1Tsp Dry mustard
½ cup Brown sugar
2Tbsp Liquid honey
3Tbsp Dark rum

Method for Ham in Rum Sauce

Preheat oven to 375ºF
Wipe ham dry. Insert cloves in fat around the edge of steaks and place in a shallow baking dish. Pile apple slices on each steak. Ad the ½ cup of rum, then water until liquid is about ½ an inch up side of ham. Cover and bake in a 375ºF oven for 50 minutes.
Remove baking dish from oven and drain off juice and retain. Mix 1/3 cup of it mustard, brown sugar, honey and the 3Tbsp of rum. Spoon mixture over ham and apples and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes or until glazed, basting if necessary.
